Thirumala Festival and Ceremonies

The term festival - UTSAVA- means the over flow of the temple deity's blessings and happiness. Various poojas, Vedic chanting, annadana, taking out the Deity in colourful procession, etc. are the high lights. For pleasing all the upadevas and parivara prathishtas is the function of utsavabali. The festival ends on the 10th day from Kodiyettu to Araattu starts on Chothi in the month of Kumbham. The araattu procession of this temple goes to Thrikkannapuram Temple, Near N S S College , Perunna Chanagancherry.

Maha Shivarathri

Maha Shivarathri is one of the major festival of Thirumala temple celebrated every year on Thiruvonam in the month of Kumbham. Maha Shivratri, the night of the worship of Lord Shiva, occurs on the 14th night of the new moon during the dark half of the month of Phalguna Sivarathri poojas are performed on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri . During Pooja Shiva Linga should be given ceremonious bath and puja should conducted every three hours on Mahashivratri. Abhisheks are done using milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, sandalwood paste and rose water.

Amman Kuda

Amman Kuda is the major festival of this temple. Thirumal temple also called as ‘Amman kovile’ on the basis of AmmaKuda.For pleasing the Upadevathas Mutharamma,Meenakshiamma,Pechiamma and supporter Lord Bhirava and Mada Swami. ’Shakthi karakam’ or Agnikarakam is very import ammankuda fest.

Thirumala Pongala

Pongala is a Hindu religious festival. The name 'Pongala' means 'to boil over' and refers to the ritualistic offering of porridge made of rice, sweet brown molasses, coconut gratings, nuts and raisins. Only women devotees are allowed to participate in this ritual.

Pongala is the one of the major festival of this temple. Thousands of women gather every year in the month of Kumbham around this temple, which takes place on the first Friday after the Maha Shivarathri and prepare Pongala (rice cooked with jaggery, ghee, coconut as well as other ingredients) in the open in small pots to please the MADA SWAMI.
